UFC superstar Israel Adesanya faced a financial setback due to the outcome of the highly anticipated boxing match between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia on April 20.
Adesanya revealed on his Instagram that he had wagered $20,000 on Haney to win. Unfortunately for Adesanya, Haney suffered the first defeat of his professional career at the hands of ‘KingRy.’
The grudge match, eagerly awaited by fans, took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. It was set for the WBC super lightweight title, but a twist came at the weigh-in when Garcia weighed in at 143.2 pounds—3.2 pounds over the limit—rendering him ineligible to claim the title even with a victory.
The fight commenced with intensity as Garcia stunned Haney with a powerful left hand in the first round. Not to be outdone, Haney responded with a significant left hand of his own in the third round, visibly shaking Garcia.
A pivotal moment in the bout occurred in the seventh round when Garcia scored a knockdown, marking the first time Haney had been knocked down in his career.
Garcia maintained the pressure, achieving additional knockdowns in the 10th and 11th rounds.
