Former WWE Superstar Ryback has thrown a spanner in the works, predicting that the towering Gunther could be the one to dethrone The American Nightmare at SummerSlam.
Ryback, speaking on his podcast Ryback TV, believes that Gunther, the 6 ft 4 in superstar, has what it takes to take down Cody Rhodes and claim the coveted title. This comes as a surprise, given that Gunther is currently part of the RAW brand, and would need to switch to face Rhodes at The Biggest Party of the Summer.
Gunther, also known as The Ring General, has been on a roll since regaining his winning ways after losing the Intercontinental Championship to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL. His controversial win over Randy Orton in the King of the Ring Tournament earned him a world title shot, putting him squarely in the crosshairs of Cody Rhodes.
However, Cody Rhodes has his own sights set on a different opponent – Drew McIntyre. Speaking on the Busted Open podcast, The American Nightmare expressed his desire to face the Scotsman again, having suffered his last singles defeat at the hands of McIntyre on the Road to WrestleMania XL.
But with Gunther emerging as a potential threat, Cody Rhodes may need to put his plans for a rematch with McIntyre on the backburner. McIntyre, meanwhile, is focused on reclaiming his World Heavyweight Championship from Damian Priest at the Clash at the Castle Premium Live Event on June 15 in Scotland.
As the WWE universe looks ahead to SummerSlam, one thing is certain – Cody Rhodes will need to be on his guard against the towering Gunther, who could be the dark horse that upsets the apple cart and dethrones The American Nightmare.
