Fede Álvarez, the director of the upcoming summer film “Alien: Romulus,” marked Alien Day on April 26 by sharing a sneak peek of the movie’s facehugger. This year, Alien Day held extra significance as it coincided with the 45th anniversary of the original “Alien” movie, which is returning to theatres for a limited run this weekend. The new film promises to introduce a fresh chapter in the Alien saga when it releases in August.
Behind the Scenes of Alien: Romulus
Álvarez took the opportunity on Alien Day to celebrate the legacy and future of the Alien series. He has previously spoken about employing crew members from the original “Alien” and its sequel “Aliens” to ensure the authenticity and innovation of the creatures in “Alien: Romulus.” He emphasized the use of traditional effects like puppeteering and animatronics to achieve a genuine look reminiscent of the earlier films.
“We’ve got puppeteering, animatronics, all the old-school techniques. We had the right guys because they worked on the originals,” Alvarez told EW in March. “So, for some creatures, we needed those guys to nail the look and make them exactly as you’ve seen them in the past. But then when we needed something new, we had those guys as well, so that we made sure we’re faithful to the spirit of the original movies.”
A Closer Look at the New Face-hugger
In the video Álvarez posted, fans got a glimpse of the terrifying face-hugger, a creature known for latching onto humans to implant its offspring. The director expressed his enthusiasm for working with such iconic elements of the Alien franchise.
“Playing with my favourite toy on set of #AlienRomulus last summer,” Alvarez wrote in his tweet. “RC Facehugger created by the amazing team from @wetaworkshop. Happy #AlienDay, everybody!” Fans can look forward to experiencing more of this classic horror in “Alien: Romulus,” set to premiere on August 16, 2024.
