Becky Lynch discusses the pursuit of equal pay in wrestling.
As one of WWE’s premier talents, Becky Lynch holds the distinction of being a Grand Slam Champion and etched her name in history by headlining WrestleMania 35.
Recently, Lynch disclosed that she has only two months remaining on her current contract.
During an appearance on The Breakfast Club, Lynch was queried about her advocacy for equal pay.
“The last contract I signed was three years ago, following my return after having my child,” Lynch recounted.
“But when I departed, I left at the peak of my career. In a male-dominated sport, there’s often a historical precedent to avoid rocking the boat, to be grateful for what you’re given. But I felt differently; I believed I deserved equal compensation. Gender should not be a determining factor.”
Lynch emphasized her versatility, asserting that she has repeatedly demonstrated her ability to thrive in any main-event scenario. She advocated for fair compensation, underscoring the need to challenge existing norms.
“You can place me in any main event, and it would be justified. I’ve consistently proven my worth. So, please compensate me accordingly,”
Lynch asserted with a laugh.
“But it often entails advocating for more. While I appreciate any increase in pay, there’s still a need for more. It’s about pushing boundaries, and I’m pleased to witness progress in this regard.”
The conversation underscores Lynch’s commitment to advocating for gender equality in wrestling.
