WWE superstar Becky Lynch recently looked back on her WrestleMania 35 showdown against Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey, which stirred controversy due to its finish. Despite Lynch pinning Rousey, her shoulders weren’t fully down on the mat, raising questions about the legitimacy of the victory.
The historic bout marked the first time women headlined WrestleMania, solidifying Lynch, Flair, and Rousey’s status as trailblazers. Exiting the event as both RAW and SmackDown Women’s Champion, Lynch’s triumph marked the conclusion of Rousey’s initial WWE stint before her hiatus.
In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Lynch addressed the contentious finish, admitting she wasn’t fully aware of the incident in the heat of the moment. Speculating on Rousey’s actions, Lynch pondered whether they were intentional or accidental.
“I was in the moment. But I couldn’t see it… I don’t know if that was intentional, or accidental,”
Lynch reflected.
Lynch also disclosed a behind-the-scenes revelation about the match’s original finish. She, along with Flair and WWE producer TJ Wilson, planned for Rousey to appear on the verge of tapping out. However, Rousey altered the finish upon learning of the script, expressing concerns about her mother’s reaction.
“[Ronda says] Oh no, my mom wouldn’t look me in the eye or talk to me again if I looked like I was about to tap out… she’s probably not going to tap out on the finish,”
Lynch recounted.
Rousey’s departure from WWE last year dashed hopes of a one-on-one clash with Lynch. Despite the unresolved rivalry, a future showdown between the two seems unlikely within the WWE realm.
