Ayo Edebiri has withdrawn from Thunderbolts, with Geraldine Viswanathan stepping in as her replacement, as reported by Variety. The reason cited for Edebiri’s departure is scheduling conflicts.
Viswanathan acknowledged Edebiri’s situation on her Instagram story, expressing gratitude by stating, “Thank you to my friend @AyoEdebiri for being too booked.” However, the specific role in question has not been disclosed.
The cast of Thunderbolts includes Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Harrison Ford as Thaddeus Ross, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
In a recent development, Steven Yeun, originally set to play the Sentry in Thunderbolts, also withdrew due to scheduling conflicts just a month ago. Yeun expressed his desire to be part of a Marvel movie, assuring his sincerity in declining the role through email. Lewis Pullman, known for his role in Top Gun: Maverick, has been confirmed as Yeun’s replacement, as revealed in the Deadline report on Edebiri’s departure.
Geraldine Viswanathan, who starred alongside Nicholas Braun in Cat Person and appeared in The Beanie Bubble with Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks, and Sarah Snook in 2023, is set to feature in Ethan Coen’s Drive-Away Dolls. Additionally, she has recently completed filming on Nicholas Stoller’s You’re Cordially Invited.
Thunderbolts is scheduled for release on July 25, 2025, as part of Marvel Phase 6. While awaiting its arrival, stay updated on the Marvel Cinematic Universe by referring to our guide to the upcoming Marvel movies and TV shows slated for this year and beyond.
