While AEW was initially recognized for its more infrequent pay-per-view schedule compared to competitors like WWE, the company is now transitioning toward hosting monthly events.
AEW President Tony Khan views 2024 as a pivotal year for the company’s ongoing expansion. In a recent episode of his “Grilling JR” podcast, AEW commentator Jim Ross shared his thoughts on the increased frequency of pay-per-view events.
“In today’s fast-paced world, a month feels like an eternity given our quick-process mindset,” Ross remarked.
“Tony Khan brought me back specifically for pay-per-views, and I’m thrilled to be a part of them. So, having a monthly schedule works great for me personally.
While I enjoy working with Schiavone, I wouldn’t mind taking on additional assignments, whether it’s on ‘Dynamite’ or ‘Collision.’ Excalibur is exceptional, and he’s rightfully earned his place as our top announcer. He puts in the effort.”
Ross expressed his gratitude for being booked to contribute to monthly pay-per-view events by Khan.
Despite facing health challenges, Ross signed a one-year contract extension in 2024. He acknowledges the possibility that 2024 might mark his final year, but for now, he’s committed to participating in the monthly shows.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if, at some point, I suggested doing a ‘Collision’ on the go-home show, the last ‘Collision’ before the pay-per-view Sunday,” Ross shared.
“You know how us old carny types are, always looking for opportunities to stay booked.”
